About Me

Some people are lucky enough to do what they love, and I just happen to be in that select group. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a devout, passionate sports fan, taking in any and all games that I can, regardless of whether or not my favorite teams are playing. With that has also been a love of writing, something that has always been an outlet for free, honest and organic expression. I suppose it only makes sense that I put two and two together and have decided to try to make a living out of writing about the sports that I so deeply cherish.

My name is Craig Meyer and I’m a sports writer for hire. I spent the previous 10 years, from 2012-22, with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where I spent much of my tenure covering University of Pittsburgh athletics, primarily the Panthers’ men’s basketball program. In my time there, I also wrote about West Virginia University football, Duquesne University basketball, high school sports, Robert Morris University basketball, soccer, mixed martial arts and arena football, among other things.

Prior to arriving at the Post-Gazette, I attended Boston University, where I worked for the university’s student newspaper, The Daily Free Press. In my time with the FreeP, I was a weekly columnist, a men’s basketball beat writer and, ultimately, the sports editor. I also interned at the Post-Gazette in the summer of 2011, my first experience at a major daily newspaper. Before going up to B.U., I was born and raised in Louisville, Ky.

As a journalist, I have a passion for both providing valuable information and telling carefully-crafted stories. I’m well-trained in working on deadlines and the traditional practice of beat writing, but at each of my professional stops, I’ve also been fortunate enough to write long-form features and profiles, as well as delving into podcasting and video breakdowns.

There are many great stories that are out there in the world, be it in sports or beyond, all just waiting to be told. That’s what I’m here for.
